La Javanaise

I tried Titi’s food on the second day after I arrived on the island, and during my two-week stay on Gili Air, I ate there several times. The menu is very short, but I tried everything and it was absolutely delicious. Titi (owner of the place) is an amazing person, full of good energy and contagious optimism. The place is very minimalist, clean, and spacious. The food is light, incredibly tasty, and you can feel that it is made from the highest quality ingredients. I absolutely recommend everything!

Wow! If only there were more than five stars., I would give them all. Titi is really doing something different at La Javanaise. All of the dishes we tried were incredible. Perfectly spiced without being salty, full of texture and complex flavors. You can immediately tell that she uses herb and spice combinations that are not common in the most popular Indonesian dishes. Her cuisine really is like traveling to her family’s kitchen in Surabaya and tasting the recipes that have been passed down from her mother and grandmother. You can taste the love in every bite. We just left and already can’t wait to go back to eat everything all over again. Luckily, I live here and can go as often as I’d like. But, if you are just visiting the island, don’t miss out on the experience of enjoying a meal at La Javanaise. Enak sekali!

We were blown away by the entire experience - from the modern, refreshing decor to the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you instantly feel at home. What truly sets La Javanaise apart is Titi, the owner. She pours her heart and soul into every detail of this place, and you can feel it. She shares her family history through her dishes, and it’s one of the most meaningful, personal dining experiences we’ve had anywhere - not just on the island. The food is absolutely outstanding. Every dish is made with care, and you can taste the quality and passion in every bite. The standout for us was the Ayam Kemangi - a perfect balance of flavour, texture, and love. Titi even sources the Kemangi (lemon basil) directly from Java because the local version doesn’t give the dish the right taste. Another huge plus: cleanliness and transparency. La Javanaise has an open-plan kitchen, so you can see everything being prepared in real time. Titi is incredibly detail-oriented when it comes to food safety and cleanliness, and it’s clear she believes good food should not only taste amazing, but be made with care and responsibility. Everything feels fresh, intentional, and high quality. Lastly - and I say this with complete sincerity - consider yourself warned about their sambal. It’s dangerously good. One little bowl will never be enough. You’ll be ordering extra, planning your next visit mid-meal, maybe even dreaming about it later. Absolutely unforgettable. Do yourself a favour: come to La Javanaise early in your stay on Gili Air… because once you try it, you’ll want to come back again (and again, and again). Terima kasih Titi!

Delicious food. Really tasty Javanese cuisine. The staff were attentive and were able to make dishes vegetarian for us. The atmosphere was lovely, with old cover songs playing. Really worth a visit.

A stunning spot on the island that is a absolute must-visit. It features Javanese cuisine, of which Titi is a true master. You’ll find food here that you won't encounter anywhere else. Ask Titi about any dish, and you’ll be amazed by the richness of the ingredients. The menu is very small, but that doesn't matter—you’ll want to try everything anyway! Best ever: the potato dessert! Amazing place for food. So far, the tastiest dinner we’ve had in the past two weeks (Bali, Nusa Dua, Gili Islands). The staff are very kind and welcoming. We will definitely be coming back during our stay on the island.
